A Stone Menorah for Hanukkah
Solemn and reverent stones in earthy shades stand proudly in this menorah from Dominion Traders, Pakistan. Based in the city of Karachi, Dominion Traders supports independently owned workshops, many of which are family operated.
More about Dominion Traders
Mansoor Ali began Dominion Traders with business management skills he learned from his father. He was one of the first to introduce fair trade philosophies to the stone industry in Pakistan. In an area ridden with religious conflict, Ali believed that people should be given equal opportunity for employment regardless of their religious beliefs.
Although Mansoor Ali died in 2005, Dominion Traders rests in the capable hands of his son, Fahad, who carries his father’s legacy proudly by supporting local artisans and promoting fairness and equality.
More about the Menorah
A candle for each night of Hanukkah, and one special candle to remain lit always. The classic concept of the menorah is reimagined in beautifully grained granite and other stones.
Although Pakistan is largely a Muslim country, religious tolerance is something very close to the hearts of the stone-working artisans because some of them may have had a difficult time finding work if not for the beliefs and employment practices upheld by Dominion Traders.
